Self Catering Accommodation
There are six lovely self-catering rooms, each with their own private entrance. Braai facilities are available and braai packs with local Karoo lamb may be ordered at booking. Wood is provided free of charge.
Meals
Take-away breakfasts may be ordered at booking at R60 per person. This consists of a fruit juice, a seasonal fresh fruit, yoghurt and a snack bar.
The Philippolis Hotel, Rooi Ooi, Oom Japie se Huis and the Van der Post Centre offer meals. From December to mid January, Die Philippolis Restourant is also open for meals. Advance booking is required for all venues.
Activities at Anker Guesthouse
Philippolis is a lovely village for those who want to escape from the city for a few days. In this beautiful Free State Town, you can enjoy silence, closeness to nature, stargazing, birdwatching, no traffic, old-fashioned tranquility and friendliness.
In summer, relax under the grapevines, drink some locally brewed Karoo Beer, while the kids splash around in our large bore hole water pool.
Winter nights are cold, but perfect for star gazing. A hiking map is available from Jobhuis, our local art gallery.
Things to do in Philippolis:
- Tiger Canyon, a conservation project dedicated to preserving the critically endangered Bengal Tiger, is approximately 30 km from town. Day passes may be purchased through us.
- Otterskloof is a game reserve of outstanding scenic beauty situated about 30 km from town.
They offer limited day activities such as swimming, hiking, game drives, fishing (own fish gear), veld braais and sunset drives. Advanced booking for day passes through us is required. - Jobhuis, our local art gallery and gift shop, is within walking distance from our guest house.
- The Shop, the antique shop in the main road, sells unique furniture, paintings and bric-a-brac.
